Chance came into my life as an old broken down stallion with no papers His name was Romeo at the time but I was pretty sure that I was not going to have a horse named Romeo. Besided the chances were that he would not make it thorugh the winter. His feet had been foundered and he was not holding weight.
He was thin and had gotten to running at the fenses when people came around. I think it was for the fun of watching them move. His mane was matted and his ribs showed. I had seen at least one of his foals though and there was no doubt in my mind that if I could get a baby half that good the risk was well worth it.
My mother must have realized how much I wanted a foal because she paid the $100 for the horse. He went to my dad's care as I was off at College and couldn't get him there then.
He did make it thorugh the winter and two more. He also fattened up and foundered yet again in the process. My father who understood the effects of good pasture on horses but not the general gluttony of Morgans turned him out in a feild full of grass. This might not have bothered a younger more active horse with no sore joints or a horse that had never foundered but Chance gained weight at the expense of his already damaged feet. He was able to brreed my mare the next spring but he only made it though two more winters.
He became a dream horse for me in the time though because he was so easy and eager to work with. I could do anything with him and he lounged with out anything on. He was wonderful and affectionate. I loved him very much and will always remeber him with great fondness. I still have his son who is even better then his father in conformation and speed. He passes on great kind hearts and mostly willing attitudes to his children. I don't have many pictures of chance. I do have some of his son and hsi grandchildren here. In mare and foals is his great grand child.
